Travel Industry, Chatbots, and Artificial Intelligence

AI has proven in many cases to be a handy part of people’s lives. Doing jobs for millions at the press of a button and at the sound of a voice. Anything is possible, and more things are being made conceivable as this technology continues to advance and develop. As with any technology that becomes mainstream and companies looking to progress with the times, they too have implemented AI somehow into their business.
Whether it’s using smart speakers and home devices to organize a project or organizing a business trip, it’s no doubt so many have found this technology useful.
In addition to business, now AI is reaching into the travel industry with the use of “Chatbots”. Chatbots, an AI platform that uses instant messaging in application interface mimics human conversation. Their purpose in travel is to help provide information for a person’s travel arrangements with laid out details.

So how exactly does it work and what are the details?

Chatbots are nothing new to the public but are relatively new to the travel industry. On apps and games on cell phones or video game AI, generated text using chatbots has been used for entertainment and business alike. Using this in travel has already made an extreme change so far. So many are already aware of how difficult it might be to plan and coordinate a trip somewhere, especially including more than one person. There are some complications that come about at any stage of the trip. With a chatbot, or “Travelbot” so they call it, businesses plan to have services available around the clock seeing as everyone’s always moving.
Those that come and go from foreign countries face a language barrier, unfortunately. As with most chatbots already out, it’s highly convenient that they support various languages to make for an easier experience.
Unlike a real-time, real-world person, communicating with millions of travelers could be near impossible to keep up with. Not to mention the connection range and hired staff needed for different languages. A chatbot would respond quickly and efficiently with accurate details and helpful information.
It’s been a constant need for developers and engineers to find ways to improve modern day AI. The most important feature to them is an AI’s ability to learn for itself. This type of AI ability creates a type of storage of memory most AI doesn’t usually come with. Chatbot AI has a “type 1” AI, meaning there are nearly billions of responses and comments programmed into the system for the AI respond with when a traveler uses it. This is most commonly found in chatbots used in entertainment. With chatbots that can retain memory, this helps to remember people’s past experiences and preferences to assist others in their own involvements.

What are companies using these chatbots for now?

Many companies are already using chatbots in their own way to fit their preferences and way business is already performed. Facebook messenger has become majorly used in the traveling industry as a foundation for chatbots. Companies that offer a variety of services when traveling manage to reserve new features in Facebook messenger with chatbots by offering the best hotel options.
Compared to others, some companies use Facebook messenger’s features to allow people various options and selections when traveling. These choices can allow travelers to view their boarding pass and flight status, receive a booking confirmation, and check-in notifications, all accessible through Facebook messenger.
The biggest concern in the travel industry has mainly been the customer service. There’s too much that goes into managing and planning a trip, that help and professionalism make for an easier process.
